13th-27th October | New Change Garden
Cheapside Business Alliance is proud to partner with Hestia to bring the Art is Freedom Exhibition to the City, showcasing powerful art and photography created by survivors of Modern-Day Slavery.
An estimated 50 million people worldwide are living in modern-day slavery. This year’s theme ‘Seen and Heard’ highlights the voices and stories of survivor artists, raising awareness of modern-day slavery in our communities.
In 2023/24, Hestia supported over 2,800 survivors of modern-day slavery through their recovery from the trauma of exploitation.
This exhibition will be in place from the 6th-13th October in Aldgate Square, before moving over to the Cheapside area from 13th-27th October – coinciding with Anti-Slavery Day on the 18th October.
Marc Myers, Board Director for Cheapside Business Alliance and Retail Operations Director at Landsec, said:
“The Art is Freedom exhibition is a powerful reminder of the resilience of those who have survived modern slavery. By bringing this important initiative to New Change Garden, we’re not only raising awareness but also giving voice to individuals whose stories deserve to be seen and heard.
“As someone who had the privilege of supporting the opening of New Change Garden, I’m especially delighted to see it host such a meaningful and socially impactful exhibition. The space was designed to bring people together, and this project exemplifies that spirit.
“Cheapside BID and it’s Board is proud to support Hestia in this initiative, and we hope it inspires reflection, compassion, and action across our community.”
