Reconstructing Value – Bank of England

4 September 2025

We’re excited to have sponsored Reconstructing Value – a sculptural installation made from £2.5 million worth of reclaimed, recycled and reconstructed British bank notes.

Cast into bespoke curved forms and arranged to create the iconic pound symbol (£), this striking collaboration between the Bank of England, Plasticiet, and Surface Matter will debut as part of the London Design Festival in the Stock room of the Bank of England Museum — the historic home of Britain’s currency.

The installation will be in place from 15-21 September 2025 – entry to the Museum is free, but booking is essential to make sure you don’t miss out on this limited time display.

To celebrate the launch of the installation, Bank of England Museum have also offered BID Members an exclusive Parlour Tour on Monday 15th September, from 12:00 – 1:00pm, followed by a complimentary Launch Lunch provided by CBA and talk from Surface Matter on the installation – to find out more use the link here.

The installation also complements the Building of the Bank exhibition, which explores the evolution of the Bank of England’s design — from Sir John Soane’s original architecture to its present-day structure and materials.
